The Debate: The Bible and Homosexuality.
Gentlemen, please join us at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12th for our monthly meeting of the Men’s Supper Club. It will be an evening of nourishment for the body and nourishment for the soul.
Our topic for the evening will be the controversial but relevant topic in current Church discussions: The Bible and Homosexuality. We will be considering a talk given by Matthew Vines in which he examines biblical narratives related to sexuality and sexual orientation. Matthew Vines is the author of God and the Gay Christian: The Biblical Case in Support of Same-Sex Relationships. In 2013 he founded the The Reformation Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to training LGBT Christians and their allies to reform church teaching on sexual orientation and gender identity.
In 2012, Matthew delivered a speech at his hometown church in Wichita, Kansas, where he made a case that while the Bible has passages that at first glance speak against same-sex relationships, a deeper reading of the Bible reveals that the matter is much more nuanced and worthy of thoughtful re-examination. On May 12, we will look at the arguments and counter-arguments raised in the talk.
To get the most from the evening, it is recommended that you read (or view) Matthew Vine’s speech ahead of time; it is available at here. Our host for the evening will be Ian Bowles.
If you would like to attend, we ask that you send a note to Damien to help us plan for the dinner. As always, we will ask for a non-manadatory fee to cover the cost of the dinner. We look forward to seeing you there.
