Salvation: What it means for us
Spend any time in church and you will hear talk about “salvation”, often in conjunction with that other word, “sin”. But what is salvation, really? Does it really mean that God forgives all our sins, just like that? Does it mean we can live as we please with the comfort of knowing that nothing we do will be counted against us?
As you might suspect, the reality is more complicated. God does not seek to see people freed of responsibility for their sins; he seeks to see people free of sin. But how can you become free of sin? It is in God’s plan for freeing you of sin that you are called on to live in the spirit. God needs to do something to make this happen, but you must also do something, something that involves changing the fundamental nature of your soul.
Gentlemen, on Tuesday, March 8, we will gather for an evening of dinner, fellowship, and discussion to wrestle with the topic of salvation. It is recommended (but not required) that you read chapter 8 – The Salvation of Christ – in John’s Stott’s book Basic Christianity. If you have trouble locating a copy of the book, please contact Max Dionisio who can help.
If you would like to attend, please send a note to Wayne Minett so that we can plan for the dinner.
