The church of St. John’s York Mills is home to a congregation that seeks to understand the Christian faith and to work out the values and ideals of Christianity in their daily lives. Our cornerstones are faith in the words of God and of Jesus; hope that our lives and our world can be made better; and charity (or love), which calls on us to act thoughtfully, with compassion and for justice. We summarize our mission like this:
To know Christ and make Him known
Our church building is set on a hill overlooking the Don Valley near the intersection of Yonge Street and York Mills Avenue. St. John’s is the oldest Anglican parish church in Toronto and will celebrate 200 years in 2016; the current church is a local landmark with a section dating back to 1844. Adjacent to the church is a churchyard (cemetery) that offers peaceful respite within the city.
Of course, the real church is not the building but the people. We are blessed to have a devoted and spiritual clergy and a congregation that is friendly and engaged. If you are thinking about joining a church, looking for a new church home or just want to visit one Sunday, you will find a warm welcome here. If you are looking for a place of worship and prayer, a place to find and strengthen your faith, a place to explore and discuss Christianity and a place of fellowship and community, we invite you to come and experience St. John’s York Mills.
