Nov 5: Remembrance Services

Our duty to remember

Poppy - Lest We ForgetOn Sunday, November 5, 2017, St. John’s will hold services to commemorate Remembrance Day. (Remembrance Day falls on Saturday, November 11 this year.)

This is not a day of celebration. Rather, this is a day to look back and honour those who made sacrifices, including the ultimate sacrifice, so that we may live our lives and enjoy the freedoms of peace. It is also a day reflect, to pray, and ponder about being vigilant to the horrors of war.

Dedication of the Vimy Oaks

Vimy Oaks logo2017 is the one hundredth anniversary of the World War I battle of Vimy Ridge. To commemorate, St. John’s has obtained three oak saplings from the Vimy Oaks Legacy and planted then in the Churchyard.

Following the 9 a.m. Sacred Table, we will proceed out to the Churchyard to dedicate the Vimy Oaks. These saplings have been grown from acorns that were gathered from the site following the battle of Vimy Ridge.
