Christmas Outreach Projects

Christmas Is for Giving!

The FaithWorks and Outreach Committee encourages you to enhance your Christmas experience by participating in the following seasonal ministry opportunities:

Christmas Gift Drive

A Canadian Tire “money” donation box is located in the foyer beside the entry door to our sanctuary; however, many more people are collecting their rewards through credit card purchases these days and so we cannot rely on these donations alone. So, if you would like to help, please drop a cheque payable to “St. Johns – Christmas Gifts” in the box or collection plate or bring it to the office (receipts will be issued).  Every CT or regular dollar donated is generously matched by the Leslie and Sheppard Canadian Tire store, and Mastermind Toys has donated many boxes of gifts. During our 2016 campaign, by virtue of getting rock-bottom prices at Canadian Tire’s Leslie and Sheppard store, each $1 donation was worth $3!

Gifts purchased through this drive go to children at Robertson House women’s shelter, homework club students at the Downsview Youth Covenant, children of prisoners through Friends of Dismas and to volunteers at Flemingdon Park Ministry.

The Giving Tree

The Giving Tree is set up towards the end of November (beginning of Advent). Parishioners drape it with handmade or purchased mittens, hats and scarves that are included in Christmas gift boxes for distribution by Flemingdon Park Ministry. Those with no talent for yarn work and no time for shopping can drop a cheque payable to Flemingdon Park Ministry in a collection plate or off at the office, and it will be sent on accordingly.
