Making a Difference
New Circles is a not-for-profit, social-service agency that serves the Flemingdon Park, Thorncliffe Park and Victoria Village communities. Their primary service is a clothing bank program (GLOW — Gently Loved Outfits to Wear) that provides new and gently used clothing for men, women and children. They also offer programs such as:
- Volunteer employment opportunities and life-skills training
- Holiday gift-giving programs
- A Mobile Mall for seniors
- Assessment and referral to other needed agencies and resources
New Circles has received volunteer assistance and many terrific donations from parishioners. They continuously stockpile winter wear and always need any gently used clothes for children, teens, men and women, plus sheets and comforters.
Moving Up in 2014
In 2014, New Circles moved to new quarters at 161 Bartley Drive (Victoria Park and Eglinton area). It was so exciting to see their dreams for a larger store, new classrooms and a community room becoming a reality, and the agency is flourishing at its new location. There is an expanded waiting area for clients with kitchenette, internet café and children’s play space. There are two fully-equipped classrooms to support new certificate-based retail and office-skills training programs, as well as language tutoring and friendship circles. GLOW has become a Winners-style department store, offering a more professional retail setting for customers and training program clients alike. In recognition of its importance to the community, GLOW recently received an expansion grant from the province of Ontario!
